Siamese Kitten adjustment Tips

Congratulations! If you read this article, you probably chose yourself an adorable Siamese kitten, and all that's left is to know some important safety tips to help you and your kitten adapt to the new and exiting life together.

Adjusting the environment to your new kitten

Kittens, and especially Siamese kittens, are very curious in a new environment, and love to explore new thing. What you need to do is to make sure your kitten won't be exposed to any danger while doing so:

  • Close any exits your kitten may be able to go outdoors from: shutters that have large spaces in between, windows if necessary, front door of the house etc.
  • Hide objects that can injure or hurt your kitten: scissors, kitchen tools, heavy things that can fall, breakable things, medications and toxic materials or liquids that can be swallowed, plastic bags etc. The best thing is to scan every room before you let you kitten wander around the house free.
  • Close any entrances your kitten will be able to get into and that can endanger his life: washing machine and dryer doors, toilet cover, oven and refrigerator doors, any cabinets that were left open etc.
  • Check your plants, if you have any. Some plants are very poisonous for cats.

Let your kitten take his time to adjust and explore the new environment

  • Put the carrier in a quite room with food, water and a litter box, and let your kitten get uses to to environment when he's ready. If, at the beginning, he will not want to go outside the carrier, it's perfectly o.k. When he will feel safe, he will do so.
  • When you sense that your kitten feels safe and ready, take the carrier and place it outside, in the main room of the house with his food, water and litter box. Now give him some time to get to know the other parts of the house.
  • If you have more pets, introduce them to the new kitten gradually, and don't leave them alone until you are absolutely sure they get along.

Be attentive to your kitten's needs

  • It shouldn't take long before your kitten feels enough confidence to walk around the house and become part of the family, but it's very important to pay attention to his adjustment. If you sense he is not eating enough, not using the litter box or acting in any way that you feel is not normal, take him to the vet as soon as possible to have him examined.
