Siamese Cats Care

Bathing
Siameae Cats CareNot all Siamese cats need to be bathed, some may never need a bath, while others may need one every week, but not more then once a week, because it is important to allow the coat to reclaim its natural oils. When bathing a Siamese, you may use human shampoo, quality ones that will make your Siamese fur like silk. You may also give your Siamese a dry bath using cornstarch (usually being used a night before a competition or a show). The cornstarch needs to be rubbed into the coat till the roots. The cornstarch will remove extra oils and hair, leaving the coat smooth and neat.

Brushing
It’s important to pay attention to the brushing, because too much brushing can do damage to the color of the coat. The simplest way to remove dead hair is to use a rubber brush (available in pet stores). During spring time it is recommended to brush your Siamese once a week and in the other seasons even less (you will notice how frequent by the amount of hair).

Special ear care
Grooming Siamese cats ears is important mostly for competitions. In order to make it look as if the ears are larger, many owners cut the long hair inside the ears, to emphasize the shape of the ears. This must be done very carefully, with a dull end pair of scissors.

Scratching post

Siamese cats need a scratching post to nurture is nails and to relieve themselves.

Proper nutrition
It is very important to buy high-quality food that contains meat protein, because it is a necessary ingredient in Siamese cats food.

Litter box
It is recommended to use clay or Pine litter, but not a scoop-able litter. Scoop-able litter is not sterile, and all the bacteria and germs remain in it. It also gets sticky in fluids, and can cause damage to the cat’s intestines, when he will try to lick it off.

Gingivitis
Gingivitis can be a problem in Siamese cats, which is why it’s important to look after their hygiene and brush their teeth once a week. Dental kits are available in all pet stores.
